Caley Balfour

I started my career in the world of recruitment in Edinburgh in 2004.  Working with various well known and established recruitment agencies, I quickly learnt the recruitment process from start to finish.  I focused specifically on recruitment for the Civil & Structural Engineering sector and found great success with this working with a number of high end clients.  After many years in recruitment, I was offered an opportunity to move to the Scottish Borders and take up employment with a private welfare to work programme provider and assist the unemployed into employment.  Being the absolute opposite to what I had done before I embraced this new challenge.  This is also where I met Moira.  After working together for six and a half years we had literally done such a great job that we made ourselves redundant.  Fast forward a train journey, too many G&T’s, a very passionate conversation about the Scottish Borders and the demand for an experienced Recruitment provider and Balfour Wilson Recruitment was born.

When I’m not working in the office, you will either catch me jogging (slowly) around the Borders or on my road bike, walking the dogs or enjoying a lush glass of red.

Moira Wilson

I started my working career with Royal Mail where I worked for 13 years.  During this time, I undertook a number of exciting and challenging roles that allowed me to develop both professionally and personally, living in various parts of the UK from Edinburgh to Belfast, Glasgow to Milton Keynes.  I longed for a better work/life balance and left Royal Mail and returned to the Scottish Borders, which has always held a special place in my heart.   Upon returning to the area I secured a role with RBS working within their HR function based in Gogarburn, providing advice to all of the businesses within the group.  In 2008, I began working for a welfare to work organisation based in Galashiels, assisting long-term unemployed residents of the area secure work. It was in this role that I met my business partner Caley Balfour and due to our success in this role, made ourselves redundant at the end of May 2017. During this time I was very privileged to work with a wide array of businesses based throughout the region and developed a number of very strong working relationships.  What became very apparent was the skills gap in the area and how difficult it was to identify suitably qualified professionals locally and attract talent to the area.  Having identified a gap in the market, Balfour Wilson Recruitment Specialists Ltd was born.

In June 2019, I was appointed Chairperson for the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce, a role which I am very honoured and privileged to hold.  It is my goal to raise the profile of the Scottish Borders and see local businesses, large and small thrive.

As a working mother, I relish every moment I get to spend with my family.  I am keen runner (although not very fast) and have completed a number of half marathons.  I am also embarking on my goal to make it to Crufts in 2020, with my young Cocker Spaniel….so watch this space!

Hummingbirds flap their wings 70 times per second, meaning that they work tirelessly to achieve their goal – just like us!

Hummingbird are the only birds that can fly backwards, forwards, sideways, up and down, which shows our versatility and flexibility to your recruitment needs and requirements.

Finally…..Hummingbirds must consume half of their body weight in sugar daily. So, feel free to pop round, as there will always be cake and biscuits on offer!
